The Dog Whisperer aka Cesar Millan is the gift to dog owners nationally and internationally in understanding and training their pet. From his TV show on Nat Geo Wild to running his Dog Psychology Center to producing the Cesar’s Way Magazine to writing bestselling books and sold-out speaking engagements, Cesar is the world’s most in-demand dog psychologist and yet he still makes time for his non-profit The Millan Foundation that rescues and rehabilitates abused and abandoned dogs.

Cesar Millan stated, “Through the strong support of our fans, we are able to fulfill our dreams. Our many years of experience in the rehabilitation of dogs of every breed and background has taught us that most animals can make excellent companions, and that all many of them need is the proper care and a second chance.”

Since 2007, The Millan Foundation has provided financial support and rehabilitation expertise to shelters throughout the United States, better enabling them to maintain the highest standards of care and assistance to animals under their protection.

“Too often it is the owner who has given up on a pet, or mistreated it in some way that has made it inhospitable. These centers work diligently to rehabilitate dogs and find them good homes rather than exterminate them, a resort we think is never acceptable. Some of these shelters are woefully under funded, though their hearts are in the right place. We provide assistance to the best of them whenever and wherever we can so that these great animals will continue to make great companions,” Cesar explains.

Specifically, the Millan Foundation offers help in these ways:

* Supports no-kill shelters and other organizations committed to saving dogs from euthanasia, as well as relocating misplaced and/or misunderstood animals.

Created in 2009, Shelter Stars is the Millan Foundation’s animal shelter affiliation program. It promotes positive, healthy relationships between families and the dogs they adopt from re-homing organizations across the country. Currently, over 900 Shelter Stars partners are distributing copies of Cesar Millan’s Mastering Leadership DVD series volume 3: Your New Dog & Beyond, free of charge to families that adopt shelter dogs. More than 1,000 DVDs were sent home with new adopting families in the first three months of the Shelter Stars program.

* Provides Cesar Millan books, DVDs and other aids at no charge to shelters and rescue groups for both fundraising and educational purposes.

* Creates and supports regional and national projects targeting education and awareness of proper dog behavior and care; outreaches are given to both adults and children.

* Produces national public service announcements to create and foster awareness of important animal-related issues including spay and neuter programs.

Last year, Cesar Milan partnered with Lopez Negrete Communications to spread awareness of the importance to Spanish-speaking dog owners of spaying and neutering pets and its direct impact on canine overpopulation through a series of public service efforts.

“We are dog lovers and have admired the work that Cesar has accomplished throughout the years,” said Alex Lopez Negrete, president, CEO/CCO of Lopez Negrete Communications. “Pet overpopulation is an important issue and one not commonly addressed in the Hispanic community, so we knew this was a breakthrough project we had to engage immediately.”

Cesar’s Story

Millan, born in rural Mexico, first came to the United States intent on becoming the world’s best dog trainer. Soon, however, he realized his life’s mission would be a much more important one. America’s dogs, he learned, were the most loved, best cared-for dogs in the world, but he soon realized that many of them were dangerously out of control. Millan subsequently altered his goal, and set his sights on becoming a “rehabilitator” of dogs—working to help problem dogs overcome lifelong issues, but, more importantly, to help train dog owners how to be the solution, not the problem. Since then, Millan has successfully spread his message of “it’s the owner, not the dog” by way of his hit television series, # 1 New York Times best-selling book Cesar’s Way, and instructional DVDs.

His ability to train even the most aggressive, scared, lazy, compulsive or jealous dogs has made his hit TV show, “The Dog Whisperer” on the National Geographic Channel a three-time Emmy Award nominee and the 2010 People’s Choice Award winner for Favorite Animal Show.
